Your guide to buying and building gabions
Gabions, also known as stone baskets, are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functionally versatile, from gabion fences and walls to raised beds and furniture. In our online shop you will find a wide range of gabion products that are characterized by quality and flexibility. In this blog we answer some of the most common questions about buying and installing gabions to make your decision and installation easier.
How do I anchor gabions securely?
The need to anchor a gabion depends largely on its dimensions. Narrow and tall gabions in particular, such as gabion columns or narrow gabion walls, should be firmly anchored in the ground for safety. For this purpose, we recommend installing galvanized fence posts, which are concreted into the ground about 50 to 80 centimeters deep or attached to an existing foundation, depending on the soil conditions and the dimensions of the gabion.
Construction of the gabions: What needs to be considered at the location?
Gabions can become very heavy once they are filled. It is therefore essential that the subsoil is sufficiently stable and ideally compacted. A complete concrete foundation is not absolutely necessary, but the location should be level and solid. If anti-tilt protection is required, it is advisable to install this before assembling the gabions.
What tools do I need for assembly?
Our gabions with spiral closure do not require any special tools for assembly. The mesh elements are simply connected using the spirals provided. For models with C-ring closure, we recommend using our special pliers, which you can also buy or rent in our shop. The C-rings should be attached at regular intervals along the edges, especially at the corners of the structure.
What are pre-assembled gabions?
Pre-assembled gabions make assembly much easier. With these models, the edges are already closed with C-rings at the factory. You receive the gabion practically ready for use; only the lid is still open to allow filling. After you have filled the gabion with stones, you can close the lid with the included spirals or optionally with C-rings.
By answering these questions, we would like to make it easier for you to enter the world of gabions and show you how easy and individual you can design your garden with our products. Visit our online shop to find out more and find your perfect gabion.
